At Sero Zero Waste, customers can bring containers from home and fill them with the food and everyday essentials they need. Founders Liz and Laura set out to give Newport a more convenient way to shop with less disposable packaging. Their store at Tredegar House has become a place for the local community to discover refill, local produce and practical ways to reduce waste.
A display designed for the space
Sero’s shop sits inside a Grade II listed barn. The team needed a substantial refill display that would suit the character of the building and stand securely without being fixed to a wall.
Martek supplied two bespoke Eco Premium units, each fitted with 28 gravity dispensers and six scoop bins providing 68 product dispensers in total. Together, they create a clear, inviting display for products including cereals, grains, flour, nuts and dried fruit. Customers can see what is available, choose their quantity and fill their own containers.
The freestanding design answered a practical constraint of the historic space while making the refill range a central feature of the shop.
Making lower-waste shopping feel familiar
An effective refill area has to work for the people using it every day. At Sero, the organised rows of dispensers make the range easy to browse, while gravity and scoop options accommodate different dry products. The generous display gives shoppers plenty of choice without making individually packaged goods the default.
Sero’s wider offer includes household and personal care refills, local produce and community activities. The shop shows how refill equipment can become part of a welcoming retail experience: one that helps people start with a single container, then return when they are ready to refill it again.
