In the age of Covid-19, it has never been more important to combat the return of single-use plastic.
The Coronavirus has swiftly ushered in the requirement for protective measures to combat the spread of the disease. However, these measures have largely consisted of non-reusable protective equipment.
From disposable plasticised facemasks, which will soon rival the number of jellyfish in the Mediterranean, to non-reusable plates and plastic gloves.
Much of the work and initiatives to limit the consumption of single-use plastic have been temporarily put on hold during the pandemic. The UK Government has suspended the plastic bag fee for online supermarket deliveries. Bags are now compulsory for Sainsburys deliveries and Ocado have stopped taking back plastic bags after deliveries. This is despite The New England Journal of Medicine announcing that certain strands of Covid can survive the longest on plastic surfaces.
At Martek Zaro waste, we feel it’s important for the sake of the planet not to delay the goal of eradicating single use plastics from the food supply chain. For this reason, we are more determined than ever to offer customers a safe and hygienic alternative to single use plastics through our gravity dispensers and other zero package dispensing solutions.
Zero waste shopping in the age of Covid is supported by the over 100 scientists
stating that reusable containers are safe to use. We hope that more stores engage with scientific advice and don’t let the planet suffer as a result of the pandemic.
